About Miss Fitzgerald

News for the Week Ending 9/11

Dear Families of 3-Fitzgerald,

Welcome to your child’s third grade year at Pine Bush Elementary! I am delighted to be working at Pine Bush this year and am excited to share all the engaging projects we will be working on this year.

This is my fourth year teaching, and although this is my first year at Pine Bush, I can assure you that the third grade team is extremely cohesive and will be working together to achieve many goals. I am excited to teach third grade and am certain your child will have a very successful year!

I want to take this opportunity to share with you some basic information about our classroom. You can expect a newsletter home each Friday showcasing our work from the week. In addition to the weekly newsletter, you can access the letter online, as well as even more information at www.msfitzgeraldsclassroom.com.

Homework this year will come in the form of a packet on Monday night. I know most students are very busy with their own extra-curricular activities as well as those of siblings. Therefore, the packet format should allow you and your third grader to budget time efficiently to complete the packet to turn in Friday morning. Our normal homework routine will begin Monday, Sept. 14th.

Birthdays this year will be celebrated during snacktime. Students may bring in a treat for their birthday. We will pause and sing for the student, have our snack, and then get back to work. Those students having a summer birthday will have the option to choose a day in June on which to celebrate their birthday. As a reminder, all birthday party invitations are expected to be mailed outside of school.

It is my goal this year to work very closely with families on providing the best education to your third grader. If you find a concern arises, please do not hesitate to contact me. If you need to set up an appointment, please send in a note, email or leave a message on voicemail for me. I will respond to you as soon as possible and will typically be able to meet within 1-2 days.

I am looking forward to a fabulous year working with your children!

Milestones:

You can expect to hear a lot about “milestones” this year. Coinciding with our Social Studies curriculum, the Milestones Project focuses on how children all over the world experience the same milestones: learning to walk, learning to talk, losing a tooth, beginning school, and so much more.

This past week the students wrote about the milestone of starting 3rd grade. Students were asked to write a piece describing what the first morning of third grade was like for them. Some wrote of how they were nervous or anxious, others that they were excited to see their friends. Some had to wait for the bus for what seemed like forever, while others were surprised when the bus came so suddenly.

As we continue on through the year, you can see these works on display in the halls and classrooms of third graders. I will also be posting samples to our class website so that students may share their work with family and friends.

As we move forward, I encourage you to visit the Milestones Project website at: www.milestonesproject.com. Your child will enjoy viewing the site with your supervision. This fascinating site truly communicates how very much the same we all are.

Classroom Volunteers:

At Open House there will be a sign up if you are interested in volunteering in our classroom this school year.

Time for Kids:

This year our class will be subscribing to Time for Kids. This will complement our Social Studies curriculum. Please send a check for $5.42 payable to “Time for Kids”. Thanks!

Questions or Concerns:

Please feel free to email me at: fitzgeraldm@guilderlandschools.org. Please note that I will be able to check my email only from home during the first month of school while we wait patiently to have our network running at school. A better way to reach me during the day would be to leave a message on my voicemail: 357-2770 x4105. I will return your call as soon as possible. Thanks!
