Dear Families of 3-Fitzgerald, This week we began our Kindness & Justice Challenge. We have enjoyed our time working with other third grades to discuss good character. We've worked hard to observe others being kind and fair to our fellow Pine Bush students. Ask your son/daughter about how long our paper chain is becoming! In addition to talking about kindness and justice with other classes, we also had the opportunity to share our latest Milestones piece across our grade level today. We love getting to learn with all our friends and having the chance to work so closely with our other 3rd grade classrooms! Finally, we had technology additions this week! As the teacher computers were replaced, we gained a student computer to use in class. We're looking forward to using this for research. Our projector is all set up, as is our document camera! Ask your child about using the Elmo. It has been a great way to include students in mini-lessons and for sharing work!

This week we continued our unit of study of biographies. We practiced strategies to reread for additional information. Important information has been put into a graphic organizer and will be used to complete our biography writing project. In writing this week, we worked in groups to complete a student-created rubric that we will use to guide our work with our biography reports. Students collaborated on the criteria for an "Extraordinary Biography Report". We are excited to begin this piece, and are looking forward to using our rubric to check our work as we go through the writing process.

In wrapping up our Civil Rights unit of study, students participated in a "Quote Museum" where they browsed through the classroom with a talking partner to discuss a variety of quotes having to do with civil rights. We made a lot of connections to our previous learning. Students chose their favorite quote and created a poster to showcase their vision. The finished posters are on our website and can be viewed through the "Photos" page. Next week we will begin a unit of study on China. |
We wrapped up our study of Unit 5. Our assessment was on Wednesday. You can expect to see the assessment handed back on Monday. We began Unit 6 also on Wednesday. This unit will be focusing on Geometry. Students began the unit by working in pairs to create a learning poster about a specific geometry term. We now have a gallery of vocabulary words with definitions, examples, and pictures on our math wall. Play Number Top-It online here versus the computer by clicking here. Try playing this at home with a friend or family member! Play Multiplication Baseball online by clicking here. (This is one of our favorite new games in class and this online version is super cool!) |
