RECESS:

Since 3rd grade is a transitional year from primary to intermediate grades, students should leave stuffed animals and toys at home. We have some great recess choices for the students here at school. Per school policy, personal electronic devices are not permitted in the classroom or at recess.

WEEKLY V.I.P.:

To get to know each other, each student in our class gets a whole week of being the V.I.P. (Very Important Person)!

Click HERE for the VIP list/dates

Weekly V.I.P. Events:

Monday - Share your poster, then display it for the week. (If no school, Monday, share poster on Tuesday, items on Wednesday.)

Tuesday - Share your special items you bring in the V.I.P. totebag. Display your items for the week.

Wednesday & Thursday- Each classmate writes and decorates a poem for the V.I.P.

Friday - You and a friend of your choice will eat lunch with Mrs. Schaefer.

V.I.P. Poster Ideas:

• Write your name large and decorate it.
• Use 4-6 photographs of yourself and/or family members.
• Write your 3 favorite books.
• Write your 3 favorite animals.
• Write your 3 favorite sports or hobbies.
• Write your 3 favorite foods.
• Add any other things you want to show us or tell us about yourself!

Design your poster on posterboard or a large piece of paper. Bring it in on the Monday of your V.I.P. week. You will have the chance to share your poster Monday morning at meeting time.

Totebag Guidelines:

When you bring home the V.I.P. totebag on Monday evening, fill it with items that are special to you. You might choose a vacation scrapbook or picture album. You might choose your favorite lego creation. You could share a piece of artwork you did, or a medal you earned in a sporting event. Have something too big to fit? Bring in a photo of it! :)

You will have the chance to share and display your special items on Tuesday at meeting time. Your items can stay in class until Friday, when you can bring them back home in the V.I.P. totebag. Please remember to bring the empty totebag back the next Monday so the new V.I.P. can take it home to fill.

SCHOLASTIC NEWS:

We will be using Scholastic News this year to read about current events. A subscription has been ordered for each child. The cost for each subscription is $4.25. Please make checks out to "Scholastic" and send them in with your child. I will collect them all and mail to Scholastic. Thanks for your support with this great resource for you children!

BIRTHDAYS:

This year, third graders will be celebrating birthdays without food. In place of bringing in food to share, students will be recognized by receiving a "Happy Birthday Homework Pass". The homework pass is good for one "free" night from homework and can be used once at any point in the year. Students with summer birthdays may choose a day in June to share a healthy treat OR they may do so on their "half birthday".

There will be a sign up for class directory at Open House. I will send it home and this should be used for mailing birthday invitations outside of school. Thank you for your support!
