What's Going On?
ELA: Math: Social Studies:
We're practicing for the ELA exam that will be on Jan. 13 and 14th. We're focusing on slowing down to take our time to read the questions and eliminate incorrect answers right away. We're practicing a strategy called chunking, envisioning and summarizing. We break the reading into parts. Read the first part and jot down the 2 W's (Who and What) that are mentioned. Then we mentally use the 2W's to form a summary sentence. This helps us remember what we are reading much easier.

Our reading will be primarily on Canada, Mexico and Latin America. Students will be tying the reading groups in with our Social Studies curriculum.
We are practicing long division. It is very important that your child study and know their multiplication tables. The quicker they can come up with their times tables, the easier division will be for them. We will be learning about Canada, Mexico, and Latin America. Our studies will bring be well-rounded. We'll learn all about different cultures, from the Maya and Inca to present day. We'll learn about the governments, economy and what you could expect to see if you visited these areas.

Science:

We will be learning about nutrition as a part of tying science and health together. We'll focus on what foods are better for our body and look at the food and exercise pyramids.
